Meet Candice Kislack,
Former Exec of TOMS Shoes

With an entrepreneur father and an interior designer mom, it’s no wonder Candice Kislack fills her days marrying outside-the-box ideas with real, lasting impactful business strategies. She’s one of those rare people who is equal parts business and creative, best displayed through her work to help launch, grow, and run trailblazing One for One brand TOMS Shoes.

The ambidextrous-brained Kislack has always had deep roots in creative strategy. Post-college, she worked with billionaire Ted Waitt at Gateway Computers where he placed her on a team specifically hired to spend money in innovative ways.

The now San Diego-based mother-to-be (her wee one is due late March), spends her hours advising everyone from small social start-ups to some of the biggest names in business on how to scale in the most graceful, and ultimately worthwhile way possible.

Here, we asked the do-it-all adviser 5 questions about what makes her tick.

Your Work

Must have meaning. Be useful. Collaborative. Socially responsible.

Your am & pm

AM is fresh pressed juice, PM is herbal tea. AM is rushed, PM is slow and enjoyable. My husband Chip and I play games like old-fashioned Pacman, Rummikub, and cards to unwind.

Your Weekend

They’ll change dramatically after we have our baby, but it’s always household responsibilities out of the way first, then time with my husband, parents, and siblings. My favorite Sunday morning is having friends over for a long drawn out brunch with deeper-meaning-of-life conversations to boot.

Your Balance

I feel like I’m a more creative person when I shut my brain off so I rely on an hour and a half of yoga. The escape makes me a better wife and a better business person. I also try and journal everyday (I call it having a conversation with my soul).

Your Recipe

During the summer, I’ll make homemade ice cream every single day. Sometimes Chip and I will have ice cream for dinner. My favorite blend includes Junior Mints, Oreos, and Thin Mints.
